Mission Statement: To teach our children that it is our call as Christians to love and care for others.
Every grade at Holy Trinity has a mission that they sponsor each year. Students learn about the mission through class projects, visiting the service sites, collecting food and clothing, and earning dollars for their mission through chores at home. Through these service programs, we believe that our children begin to see and appreciate the importance of caring for others.
Kindergarten and First Grade: Schuhmann Center
The Schuhmann Center is an outreach program of St. Martin of Tour whose mission is to assist the homeless and needy by offering clothing, food, and social services in a Christ-like atmosphere of dignity and respect. The children bring item/s such as blankets, coats, food pantry items and school supplies. They will also make and fill Christmas stockings and Easter baskets that are distributed at the Center.
Second and Third Grades: The Hospitality House
The Hospitality House is a 19 room apartment building located in downtown Louisville that provides lodging at a very affordable rate. Families outside the Jefferson County can stay there while visiting loved ones in the area hospitals. Some guests stay anywhere from one night up to one year. The children in these grade levels do monthly rotations of sending baked goods, toiletries, cleaning supplies and making door decorations. They also raise money by doing chores to help with the operating expenses at Hospitality House for one day.
Fourth Grade: The Golden Arrow
The Golden Arrow is an outreach ministry of St. Martin of Tours Church and is dedicated to working with low income families. They provide basic necessities for pregnant women, mothers, infants and young children. Last year they assisted 1500 families, many of which find themselves in situations they have no control over. The center offers their services in a caring and friendly manner so each person knows that God cares about them and their babies. The fourth grade students will help provide the center with rosaries, food, clothing and supplies.
Fifth Grade: The Masonic Home
The Masonic Home provides care for senior Masons, Masonic couples, and Masonic widows. They also provide the same excellent care to others in our community at the Louisville or Shelbyville facilities. Their superior facilities, programs and warm personalized care have enhanced resident’s quality of life. The fifth graders will have the chance to visit with the residents monthly. They will read to them, play bingo, etc. They will also plan special seasonal events throughout the year. Last spring, Holy Trinity fifth graders were awarded the Masonic Home “Volunteers of the Year” award for their dedication to this project.
Sixth Grade: Migration and Refugee Services
The mission of Migration and Refugee Services is to provide refugees with the support and assistance they need in order to become self-sufficient. The students will be involved with collecting needed items on a regular basis. They will help to put together Welcome Baskets for new arriving families. They may also be involved with helping to set up apartments for new refugee families.
Seventh Grade: Dare To Care
Dare to Care is a Louisville non-profit community agency dedicated to providing food, directly and indirectly, to people in need. The students will be involved with the Louisville Hunger Walk, collecting food and raising their own money to donate to the agency. They will also have the opportunity to serve at one of the nine Kids Cafes. They will collect money by doing chores monthly to assist in the "Blessings in a Backpack program” which benefits needy families.
Eighth Grade: Harbor House
The Harbor House enhances the lives of people with developmental disabilities through employment, education, determination and community building opportunities. The eighth graders will help sell ducks in the Kenducky Derby, an annual event which helps to raise money for the center. The students will also spend a day in the spring and fall participating in various activities involving the participants at Harbor House.
