Bible Study

Holy Trinity offers several opportunities to participate in a Catholic Bible Study. If you have wanted to study and pray with Scripture, consider joining one of the following groups.  Most groups meet in the Spiritual Life Center.  Each group selects its own study materials.  Below you will find the study themes and dates planned for the winter of 2020.

Sunday morning-9:45-10:45 AM in the Adult Formation Rooms

On the Road with Jesus (Matthew 10-20)– Six Weeks with the Bible.  In the book of Matthew, Jesus teaches his disciples, and us, how to follow him. Matthew 10-20: On the Road with Jesus brings to life the teachings of Jesus as found in the book of Matthew.  This study would make a great Lenten journey with Jesus to the cross. The cost of each book is $8.  Facilitators are Susan Means and Eunice Maguire.  Dates are 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16.  The group will continue with another Lenten study TBA on the following dates:  2/23, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, and 4/5.

 

Monday morning -9:30-11 AM   in the Adult Formation Rooms

Living in the Father’s Love, a six week Walking with Purpose Lenten Bible Study for Moms that helps you discover how much God loves you and how the Gospels are deeply relevant to a relationship with God and with others.  Cost is $15 for materials.  Facilitators are Adrea Stuecker and Dawn Michels.  Dates are 2/10, 2/24, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, and 3/23.  Childcare is available.

 

Monday afternoon – 1-2:30 PM in the Spiritual Life Center

Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother with Edward Sri.  This 8 week Ascension Press Bible Study will help you understand Mary’s role in salvation history by taking you through her joys and sorrows.  The accompanying DVDs were filmed in the Holy Land. Cost is $20 per study book. Facilitators are Rachel Schrepferman and Susan Spalding. Dates are 1/13, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/24, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23.   

 

Wednesday morning – 8:30-10:30 AM in the Spiritual Life Center

Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom.   This group will continue their 20 week study of the Acts of the Apostles by Ascension Press.  The Book of Acts  provides the historical framework for understanding the rest of the New Testament. You will see how the Gospel witness spread outward in waves, share the joys and struggles of the first Christians, and discover how the Church is empowered to carry out Christ’s work in the world. Facilitator is Kathy Fehder.  Dates are 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8.

 

Wednesday evening – 7-8:30 PM in the Spiritual Life Center

Pivotal Players.  Bishop Robert Barron’s 6 part series on key people who influenced the Church.  Saints explored include Thomas Aquinas, Francis of Assisi, Catherine of Siena, John Henry Newman, G.K. Chesterton, and Michelangelo. The cost of each study guide is $10.  Facilitator is Eric Schmall.  Dates are 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 3/4, 3/18 and 3/25.

 

Thursday morning – 9:30-11 AM in the Spiritual Life Center

Opening Your HeartThis is the first Bible Study in the Walking with Purpose series by Lisa Brenninkmeyer.  It will explore the core questions that we need to wrestle with if we want to experience all that God has for us.

  • How can I conquer my fears?
  • What is the role of the Holy Spirit in my life?
  • What does the Eucharist have to do with my friendship with Christ?
  • What are the limits of Christ’s forgiveness?
  • Why and how should I pray?
  • What is the role of suffering in my life?
  • What challenges will I face in my efforts to follow Jesus more closely?

This study is for women only.  Cost is $30 for materials.  Facilitators are Mary Feger and Sarah Hardy.  Dates for the continuation of this Walking with Purpose study are 12/5, 12/12, 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/20.  Another study TBA will begin 2/27, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 5/7, 5/14.

All are welcome to gather at 9 AM to pray the rosary before the study begins at 9:30 AM.

 

Saturday mornings – 8-9:30 AM in the Spiritual Life Center

Conversion- Bishop Barron uses six biblical stories of conversion to make the point that conversion is not a one-time event, but a lifelong process.  Eight-90 minute sessions.  Study Guide ($15 each) Facilitators are Kathy Aschbacher and Susan Means. Dates are 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22.


If you do not have time to join a formal study, there are Catholic CDs , DVDs and books available for you to purchase on a number of topics.  These can be found in  the information area of the gathering space.  You can also find a wealth of Catholic content on Formed.org - movies, podcasts, documentaries, studies, ect.
